NYCSCA - M171
The Challenge
The NYC School Construction Authority has many schools with Vinyl Asbestos Tiles in their classrooms and hallways. Over time tiles become loose, crack or break and this presents a hazardous condition that costs the SCA an enormous amount of time and money. The SCA wanted to find a way to entomb the existing tile in a way that would make it a permanent remedy to this ongoing problem while also providing a cost-effective, environmentally safe solution.

The Solution
The SCA chose the ECI asbestos tile encasement system because of its superior track record over tile in several other schools in the city. The floors were in rough condition and needed to be handled with the expertise and care that ECI has been proven to provide. The floor tiles were stripped of their wax, and work was started on leveling and securing the floor with ECI’s specialty base coat application. Once the initial stages were complete, the broadcasts and intermediate coats were completed and finished off with ECI’s super durable top coat. The SCA and principals were extremely pleased and satisfied with the results and are looking forward to the system being continued throughout the remainder of the school.
