University of Manitoba - Science Building - Asbestos Encasement
The Challenge
The University of Manitoba had large areas of loosely adhered and friable asbestos fireproofing and wanted to eliminate any potential environmental hazard. They wanted a long term and cost effective solution. They also wanted a safe area for both workers and students.

The Solution
The ECI FiberTech encasement system was chosen. The University’s contractor applied one 12 mil dry coat of the ECI F-50 Penetrating Stabilizer Primer followed by two coats of the F-51 Sealer Coat to completely encase the asbestos in place. The primer was tinted blue to enable the contractor to see all coated areas to ensure a uniform coating on all exposed asbestos fireproofing. The white Sealer Coat was then applied to enable the contractor to see any areas that were not covered properly. The blue tint that was added to the primer coat would be easily seen next to the white Sealer Coat.
