University of Manitoba - Health Sciences - Asbestos Encasement
The Challenge
The University of Manitoba had approximately 400,000 square feet of spray on asbestos fireproofing in the interstitial portion of the five floors of the building. Removal was too expensive so the University looked for another, more cost effective, form of long-term abatement. The University sent people out to Hamilton Health Sciences, in Ontario, to look at the interstitial encasement project which had been done there with the FiberTech system. Soon after their visit the FiberTech Encasement system was chosen.

The Solution
The ECI encasement system was applied to encase the walls, elevator shafts, and ceilings, in each interstitial area on each floor. Our FiberTech F-50 was applied at approximately 10-12 wet mils. The primer was tinted blue because the lighting was not very bright, to avoid any holidays in the application. This was followed by two coats of the FiberTech F-51 Sealer Coat, which was applied at approximately 12-14 wet mils per coat. This provided the owner with a seamless, waterproof system over the entire interstitial area on each floor. The University was completely satisfied with the results.
