Rector Street Station, NYC - Lead Encasement
The Challenge
New York City Transit Authority was looking for a long-term solution to their constant problem of peeling paint on the ceilings of the train stations throughout the subway system. Test patches were installed on the ceiling of the Rector Street Station by several paint manufacturers to determine the best system for longevity. Several weeks after the coating system was applied in the test area Hurricane Sandy hit New York City and filled up the Rector Street station to the ceiling. After the water receded, the ceiling was examined to see how the paint systems performed under such extreme circumstances. The only paint system not to fail or discolor was the FiberTech system.

The Solution
The ECI FiberTech Encasement System was chosen for all of the ceilings above the platforms and tracks for several stations in 2014. It was also chosen for its proven long-term durability and waterproofing capability. The FiberTech encasement system consisting of FiberTech F-50 Primer and two coats of F-51 Sealer Coat were used to cover all of the overhead painted surfaces.
