Pennsylvania Station, NYC - Lead Encasement
Amtrak, and the Long
Island Railroad had loose and
peeling lead-based paint and asbestos
in a friable condition throughout the track system inside New York Penn Station.
The new Acela train was blowing compressed air from the top of the
train, which was blowing the
loose and peeling
lead based paint
onto the tracks and platforms. The
tracks could only be taken out of commission for a short period of time
(after 10pm Friday
evening until Monday
morning at 5:45am).
