NYCSCA - Professional Performing Arts School
The Challenge
The NYC School Construction Authority has many schools with Vinyl Asbestos Tiles in their classrooms and hallways. Over time tiles become loose, crack or break and this presents a hazardous condition that costs the NYSCA an enormous amount of time and money. The NYCSCA wanted to find a way to entomb the existing tile in a way that would make it a permanent remedy to this ongoing problem while also providing a cost effective, environmentally safe solution.

The Solution
The NYCSCA chose the ECI Seamless Floor Encasement System because of its superior track record over tile in hospitals and schools. The first application was our highly elastic 100% solids epoxy primer membrane directly over the existing asbestos tile. Approximately 30 mils wet was applied based upon the condition of the tiles and the floor system's intended use. The next application was two coats each with a broadcast of colored vinyl flakes throughout the entire surface area. This was followed by two coats of our Ultra Clear Epoxy and then finished with our ECI-Aliphatic Urethane Top Coat. The asbestos tile is now permanently entombed.
